Traveler too tired to wipe down hotel remote, decides to risk it
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Business traveler and road warrior Scott Thomas checked into his Fairfield Inn & Suites near the airport in Albuquerque, NM and after the day he’s had, decides to skip wiping down the hotel remote before popping on the telly to watch a rerun of The First 48. The 48-year-old business traveler and road warrior Scott Thomas is in the middle of a horrendous business trip. His day started early with a 6:09 AM flight out of Atlanta with a 1:48 minute layover in Denver, before continuing on to his final destination in New Mexico. Or so he thought. The nearly 2-hour layover in Denver turned into a 7-hour layover after his flight was delayed several times thanks to bad weather in the Denver area. Flying an airline he normally doesn’t thanks to company policy requiring him to purchase the cheapest ticket, he didn’t even have access to an airport lounge for the lengthy delay. Instead, he spent the time huddled on the 2nd floor of the Denver Airport next to a Mexican restaurant known for incredibly average Huevos Rancheros. When he finally did arrive in New Mexico, Thomas was spent. Mentally spent and physically spent. Just spent. After a delay in retrieving his rental car (thanks Avis…), Thomas made it to his hotel for the night, grabbed a bag of chips during check-in and lumbered into his room. After unpacking and ironing his clothes for the next morning, he stripped off his slacks and clambered into bed. As he reached for the remote to flip on the television in an attempt to unwind so he could actually sleep (The First 48 was his favorite for this purpose, because it is literally on 48 hours a day…), he realized he hadn’t wiped the remote down. Faced with a decision to trundle his tired body back out of bed, retrieve a wet wipe from his backpack and wipe the remote, or just use it sans cleaning he opted to risk it. “It can’t be that dirty, right?” Thought the exhausted Thomas, “Let’s hope the maid wiped it down after the trucker who stayed in here last night streamed 19.99 pay-per-view movies all night.” No word on if Thomas acquired any communicable diseases from the experience.
